Stage and Film Acting
|
|
From day one of this two week intensive course, students are rigorously coached in a range of disciplines to build their knowledge and experience of acting. A broad array of core classes including, movement, voice, improvisation and text analysis train students in technical, emotional and physical work required for stage and film performance.
Phase One:
The lites 2000 teaching staff, all of whom are professional actors and directors provide students with a thorough grounding in the essential techniques and methods applicable to stage acting.
Phase Two:
During phase two of the training the focus shifts to applying recently acquired skills to acting in front of the camera.
Throughout the course, students perform in video shoots of scenes from produced movies, or in original work developed by the students on the film making course.
MOVEMENT
The body is the actor's instrument and as with any instrument is at its best when in good condition and finely tuned. Movement classes incorporate facets of The Alexander technique, Laban, yoga, Pilates, which extend the body's suppleness and flexibility, enhances breathing, lowers tension and develops stamina. These exercises bring a physical dimension to stage and screen acting roles.
VOICE
To an actor a free and expressive voice is indispensable. Vocal training centres around the work of Patsy Rodenburg, Cicely Berry, Kristen Linklater. Students are instructed in articulation, projection, range, breath control, and the care of their vocal instrument.
IMPROVISATION
The importance of improvisation in screen acting cannot be over estimated. Listening and reacting to fellow actors is essential. Improvisation enables performers to work in the moment.
SCREEN ACTING
Our tutors, in conjunction with the film production team, assist the acting students to adjust performance based on camera angle and shot size; to know how to hit their marks; find emotional and physical continuity, strength and imagination in acting choices.
Students are supported in the choice of speeches and scenes from produced films, or material originated by the students attending the film making course, which will be produced, directed, filmed, edited and shown along side live performances at the conclusion of the course. Each student receives a DVD copy of their filmed performance, which they may wish to include in their portfolios.
