Film Making
|

This is a no-nonsense, two week, introductory course in film making. From the outset student form part of a film production team, gaining intensive hands-on experience in all aspects of movie making.
Phase One:
Each student writes, produces, directs, shoots and edits their own one minute film. In addition they gain extensive location experience, while 'crewing' for fellow students in the roles of director of photography, production assistant, camera assistant, sound technician, grip and digital editor.
Phase Two:
In combination with our course tutors, students have the opportunity to use their newly acquired skills to produce, direct, shoot and edit performances by the students attending the screen acting course.
WRITING
This class provides students with instruction and suggestion concerning the essentials in construction of viable and original screenplays. This material will form the basis for the one minute film which each student produces during phase one of the course.
DIRECTING
Under the guiding hand of our professional film director, students are introduced to the fundamentals of movie directing. This is an essential skill for the creation of their initial movie and their ongoing film projects.
CAMERA
From day one students learn the fundamentals of operating and handling state of the art digital camera equipment. Following a brief training period, participants set about producing their own one minute short movie. Having successfully completed initial training during phase one, students move on to producing performances by members of the screen acting course.
SOUND
Sound quality is a vital part of all film production. Using top range equipment, participants learn to achieve the highest possible sound quality, while setting levels, handling boom microphones, recording dialogue and making background tracks.
EDITING
Our staff editor provides students with clear and precise instruction on the use of digital editing software. Participants learn the art of cutting, mixing and editing, audio and video tracks in preparation for the challenges of creating convincing stories.
At the conclusion of the course a screening of the production team's projects provide a unique opportunity for all students and tutors to see what has been achieved. Each student receives a DVD copy of their work, which may be included in their portfolios.
ENROLLMENT
This two week film making course is open to all those who wish to learn, or expand their knowledge of digital film making. The minimum age for attending the LITES 2000 Summer School, Film Making course is eighteen, however there is no upper age limit.
